So, KDE, a desktop environment for Linux, has a new non-Wayland desktop coming out. In the promotional materials, it has an AI-rendered “coder” pictured – mug, hoodie, stuffed doll of tux (Linux mascot) etc, but it also has a small statue of a very friendly green dragon.

So, to continue making fun of the absurdity of this rendering on IRC/#linux, I screenshot the photo and cropped the dragon into a smaller photo, and ran it through https://fyimg.com/en/image-search, reverse image search, but the choice of Google, Bing and others.

The results were not clear, at all. Some sites claimed it was from a cartoon series, but not which cartoon series. Most results came back time and again from Deviantart. AI (which cannot be turned off on the Google results while using https://fyimg.com/en/image-search) said it resembled a dragon from many popular mobile games.

So, AI generated dragons on Deviantart. AI generated “info” in the tl;dr “card”, and link after link showing me many green creatures – some dragons, some lizards, some alligators. Nothing much to do with the original image.

So AI offered AI-renderings as a result of me trying to find out what the source of this image was/is.

That's not endless scrolling. That's just slop generating slop, and more slop from sites where people generated the same or similar slop.
